How Neo San is processing non-recyclable waste where it is generated
Indian cities produce large amounts of non-recyclable dry waste that municipal systems often struggle to collect and process. Bengaluru-based Neo San, founded in 2022 by Dhwaj Bagrecha, is addressing this problem by treating waste at its source instead of transporting it to distant landfills, dumpsites or incinerators. Processing waste at source Neo San has developed compact thermal treatment units for different types of facilities. Its Neo-X can process up to 25 kg of waste per day, the Neo-XT handles up to 150 kg per day, and the AX is designed for industrial facilities processing 500 kg or more daily.
The company's technology uses rapid, high-temperature electric heating and claims to reach 1,200°C within two minutes, reducing waste into what it describes as sterile, non-toxic ash. Neo San is also developing facilities to convert the residue into building briquettes. The startup has two granted patents and 13 pending applications for its thermal processing technology. It claims that treating waste on-site can reduce lifecycle emissions by 98% compared with collection and landfilling, mainly by avoiding waste transportation. Neo San manufactures its equipment in-house and provides software tools and maintenance services to customers. Clients can either purchase the machines or use them through a monthly managed-service model. Its customers include corporate offices, healthcare facilities, government organisations and commercial real estate companies. The company has raised ₹26 crore in total funding and says its customers include Taj, Embassy and the Government of Karnataka, as well as factories and data centres. Over the next year, Neo San plans to expand into four additional states and introduce a specialised Neo-XT model for biomedical waste processing. The startup is also part of YourStory's Tech30 2026 cohort, recognizing promising Indian startups.
